Course overview

Graphic Design is a complex art, popular field and many people from all over the world take up this field and become graphic designers. To become a graphic designer, you need to master many different skills and tools including high-level concepts like layout, typography, elements of design, shape, texture, photographic images, color systems, interactive design and color. This two days based training session addresses various topics on design essentials with specific training elements built into each print job and individuals will practice concepts to maximize print quality and productivity with the least number of steps through hands-on activities accompanied with presentations and discussion and at the end participants will leave the class with a strong understanding of the fundamentals of graphics design and be able to troubleshoot a variety of design related issues upon return to their respective facility. In addition, participants will also have a better grasp of what graphic designers with specific training elements built into each print job and individuals will practice concepts to maximize print quality and productivity with the least number of steps.

Training contents

Overview of graphic design and historical perspective, essentials, elements of design including line, shape, color, texture, value and basic design principles: legibility, alignment, repetition, proximity and contrast use in printing industry.
Principles of design including, unity, harmony, proportion, balance, contrast, emphasis, direction, rhythm, pattern, repetition and variety.
Color system, primary, secondary, tertiary and complementary, subtractive, additives colors, Mansell’s scale, RGB and CMYK, and L*A*B, LCH color system.
Typography, anatomy of type and their applications, classifications and their applications, typographical solutions.
Place of design layout, composition in the graphic design process, how principles of design are applied in layout and composition.
Photographic images, photography in graphic design, photographic manipulation, use of basic photographic manipulation techniques.
Interactive design. Define interactive design, static and dynamic interactive design, interactive web page, app, game, e-publication, etc.
File preparation for intended media and important variables, DPI, PPI, JPEG, PDF, PICT, TIFF, JPG, EPS, BMP and resolution, DPI etc.).
Print related issues, trapping, color separation, screening, halftones, barcodes and legal, prepress automation and proofing, Working with CAD Dielines.
